Resources

I want to make sure that everyone who visits my blog can reach out to other sources of information (even though I know I’m pretty smart ;)). Below are a few of the resources I use almost daily. It is a mix of fitness websites, blogs, inspirational blogs, and nutrition sites.

ACE Fitness: The American Council on Exercise is the organization I obtained my certification through. I believe that this is one of the best resources for trainers and clients. There are a ton of professional resources for trainers including insurance information, continuing education programs, business tools, and more! As a trainer, I can use this website to manage my certification and earn more continuing education credits. This site also offers many other certifications such as Group Fitness Instructors, Health Coaches, and many specialist certifications. ACE also has pages for people who are not trainers. There is an exercise library, nutrition information, a fitness pro locator, research and many more helpful links!

BodyBuilding.com: This resource is huge! Even for those who are just starting to resistance train. This website is loaded with all sorts of exercises, workout plans, articles, videos, and even has a store. My main use for this website is to get ideas for my workouts. I like to browse through their library to find new and exciting exercises. The great thing about the exercise library is how detailed each page is. For example, if I want to work on my lower back there is a page specifically for lower back exercises and stretches. When you click on the exercise that you want to learn more about, the page pops up with a video demonstrating how to do that exercise, which muscles it targets, what equipment you need to perform the exercise, mechanics of the exercise, level of skill, and what force is being used during execution of the exercise. Also, the page has an option to show a male or a female performing the exercise. This site has so many features that it would be crazy not to go check it out!

MyFitnessPal: If you have not heard of this site, then you are missing out! I use this site/application on my smartphone to track my exercise and my eating habits. It’s completely free for anyone to use, and it is a big motivation for most people! On the application, you are able to log your breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks all in one place. When you first sign in you are prompted to enter some information about your height, weight, activity level, and what your goal is. Based on this information, the application will provide you with a suggested amount of calories to consume per day. This application will keep track of your progress, and you can set up reminders on your phone to alert you when you have not logged one of your meals. MyFitnessPal is also compatible with other apps, so you can sync your data with other applications on your phone. MyFitnessPal provides blogs and community message boards to keep in touch with other people using the application. It comes in handy when you need a little motivation in your life!

ChooseMyPlate.gov: This is one of the few nutrition sites that I enjoy visiting from time to time. This site is home to the dietary guidelines of the year, and provides a vast amount of information on nutrition and sticking to a healthy lifestyle (notice how I did not mention the word “diet”). This resource is focused mainly on informing the public about nutrition labels and how to read them, finding foods with less sugar, saturated fats, and sodium, motivating those who may not be aware of what is healthy and what is not, and much more. I encourage everyone to go to this site and read through the articles and information they provide. Healthy eating is a large part of a healthy lifestyle.
